About-

These birds are yellow, they are approx. 5 inches in size. They usually change their color according to seasons. Like Males are bright yellow-colored, black-colored cap, wings, and tail, and females are yellowish-green, with black wings and tail during Summer ☀️. And in winter they become greyish brown with yellow and dark brown wings.
Life span: 3-6 years.
Oldest Gold Finch lived around 11 years.
They are approximately 14 g in weight.

Feeding -

They mostly eat small seeds, insects 🐛, they also love to eat thistle and sunflower 🌻 seeds.

Habitat-

They are found in North America. They migrate from mid-Alberta to North Carolina when it's breeding season. And in winters they migrate from south of Canada-US borders to Mexico.

Identification -

We can identify them by seeing some patches like males have red patches on the head, black nasal hairs, lesser covert eyes.
Females have lighter patches.
Males are more vibrant in color than females.
Males are bright yellow in summers and olive in winters.

Mating and Nesting-

Mating starts at the end of winters and the appearance of springs 🌸. Male starts chasing the females to get their attention. Several males are chasing and trying to impress a single female. Males chase them for up to 20 min. When the female is impressed by the male they start building up their nests. 
In the western part, the nesting starts in May or June while in the east part nesting starts until August. They make their nest in Oak and beech trees. After making their nest the couple leaves the nest. After some time the pair return back to the nest and then the female lays 2- 7 eggs. The incubation period will go up to 2 weeks.

How to attract Goldfinch in my backyard?

You can easily attract them in winters by keeping some nyjer seeds or hulled sunflower 🌻 seeds in the feeder. This will surely attract them.
