About-

Chickadees are Nonmigratory, songbirds. These birds can weigh up to 9-14 g. They are 12-15 cm long. Their wingspan is 16-21 cm. Their beak is 8-9.5 mm long. They come in the category of Least concern. They are curious and gracious wild birds. They can also maintain their temperature at 100°C in winters. In the daytime, they can sustain their temperature at 0°C. They can sing in 13 different types of vocals. Lifespan- 12 years. The chickadees molt once a year.

Diet-

They usually, love to eat seeds, invertebrates, berries 🍒, insects, suet, and peanut 🥜 butter. They also eat black oil sunflower 🌻 seeds.

Identification- 

These cute birds have grey color on the upperside. They have black caps on their head. Their white cheeks make them much more beautiful. White chest and belly and light brown flank right below its wings. The back is grey and the tail is slate grey. Males are slightly broader than females. 

Habitat-

They live in deciduous and mixed deciduous forests. They commonly found near cottonwoods, willows. They also make their nest in the snags of alder and birch trees. 

Mating-

Chickadees are monogamous. The partners stay together for several years. Their Mating period starts in early spring. Male try to impress females by chasing them when they are in flight. 

Breeding- 

These birds breed once a year. Only in the case when they lose their first nest and eggs they breed again. Chickadees make their nest above 1-7m above the ground. They also use the old nest of woodpecker. They also love to make nests in nesting boxes, so if you want chickadees in your backyard so make some nesting boxes, this will surely attract them. Females lay 6-8 white eggs with reddish-brown spots. Incubation is done only by females and males feed the female. The eggs hatch in 12-13 days. Whenever any predator attacks their nest females usually make a hissing sound means the sound of snakes, to frighten the predator. Babies of chickadees are altricial.
